NOMADUK  has won more International Fly Fishing Awards in the 1990s than any other British company specializing in functionally designed garments made from highly technical, proven fabrics .

FABRICS    NOMADUK uses a number of different outer fabrics in manufacturing windproof, waterproof, breathable garments but all use either a solid hydrophilic coating or laminate rather than physical micro porous systems as, in our opinion, the solid hydrophilic systems perform better.

HYDROPHILIC Systems are solid so no wind can pass through them, they adhere deeper into the base fabric which means the performance level lasts longer (so clothes last longer)  and finally  the high degree of breathability found in comes within 3% of matching  the  ratings of even the best performing micro porous systems in a laboratory conditions. Simply put, both Hydrophilic and Micro porous systems rely upon the relatively greater heat on one side of a fabric relative to the other to push water in vapour form through either tiny holes or, in molecular form across a chemical structure.  In the case of the hydrophilic system the cells making up the coating are charged (positively or negatively) in one direction by the difference in heat to permit  water transference in molecular form from the warmer direction whilst refusing it from the colder direction.

Extensive field testing has underlined the importance of the solid windproof factor in every day comfort maintaining that little extra degree of body warmth to be retained that bit longer following exertion (eg running up a hill on a cold wet windy day) thus minimizes potential of cold clammy discomfort.

 Providing this differential of temperature is maintained then hydrophilic systems can be used in circumstances where microporous systems are weak eg when applying pressure at knee, elbow or sitting down . The molecular structure of hydrophilic systems can get confused when the temperature equalises on both sides of the coating or laminate. In the field this can happen when sitting on a soft wet warm seat (eg. stillwater boat seat)...... but we at NOMADUK have attended to this as you will read.

The 'TROPIC' Range: designed after years of experience in Tropical and Desert environments these are made from a non-iron, tightly woven, extremely fast drying, man-made fabric with a built-in ultra-violet light protection and rippled to catch the lightest zephyrs of wind.  One can get cold using fabrics that retain water (eg cotton) and these 'TROPICS', tailored for both Salt- and Stillwater fishing situations, very well in both Tropical and Temperate conditions. Infact so popular are these that 'TROPIC' Shirts were prizes for top teams at preliminary events of PEREGRINE / NOMAD UK International Team Challenge 2000.
